Dr. Gillespie is a Cardiologist at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), where he serves as the Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. After receiving his MD from Temple University School of Medicine in 1998, he completed his Pediatric Residency, Cardiology Fellowship, and Interventional Cardiology Fellowship, at CHOP. He joined the Cardiology Faculty there in 2005, and since that time, his clinical focus has been the catheter-based treatment of children and adults with Congenital Heart Disease. He performs procedures at both CHOP, and at the Hospital of The University of Pennsylvania. He is Board Certified by the ABP in Pediatric Cardiology, and by the ABIM in Adult Congenital Heart Disease.
His clinical research efforts are centered on cardiac device trials, serving as National Primary Investigator (PI), and site PI on various FDA studies over the last decade.
His translational research focus is on novel cardiac device design and development. His efforts thus far have yielded multiple grants, numerous publications and patents, and 2 start-up companies.
